Pillars Scholarships

One or more scholarships awarded annually, award amount based on spending policy set by the Board of Trustees

Open to both entering freshmen (and/or freshmen with no more than 15 college credits) and continuing degree-seeking students; priority will be given to entering students

Intent of the Awards

These scholarships, established in 2004 to honor the Greek spouses of United States Military Retirees, are offered to Greek students who have demonstrated both academic excellence and a significant history of volunteerism. The name of the scholarships (PILLARS) is taken from the name of the monument dedicated at ACG by the United States Military Retiree Association, in Greece on July 27th, 2004. It is the hope that the recipients of these scholarships will, with their support and encouragement, become the pillars of a more civilized world.

Extent of the Awards

The Pillars Scholarships provide tuition reduction based on annual spending policy set by the ACG Board of Trustees.

Eligibility Requirements

In order to be considered, the applicant must:

For Entering Degree-seeking Students:

  • meet all requirements for admission to the college
  • have completed his/her secondary education at a lyceum with a Grade Point Index average of 75% for all three years (or equivalent). If applying as a freshman with 15 or fewer credits, the applicant must also provide an official transcript of his/her college work that shows a cumulative Grade Point Index of 75% or higher
  • have been a citizen of Greece for at least three years before application
  • present evidence of volunteer work contributions in social, political, and/or cultural activities outside the school environment

To continue receiving the award, the recipient must register for at least 2 courses (6 credit hours or more) per continuous semesters and achieve a Cumulative Index (CI) of 2.7 or better by the end of the first semester of study. This CI (or higher) must be maintained while receiving the award, the duration of which may not exceed one academic year with the possibility of renewal (unless otherwise specified). In addition, the recipient must be in compliance with all College policies including the Student Conduct Code.

For Continuing Degree-seeking Students with no more than 15 College credits:

  • have a minimum CI of 3.0
  • have been a citizen of Greece for at least three years before application (If the applicant is a citizen of one or more countries in one or more Olympic Continents other than Europe, he/she must provide proof of citizenship in each of those continents for at least three years prior to application)
  • present evidence of volunteer work contributions in social, political, and/or cultural activities outside the school environment
  • be in compliance with all College policies including the Student Conduct Code

To continue receiving the award, the recipient must register for at least 2 courses (6 credit hours or more) per continuous semesters and maintain a Cumulative Index (CI) of 3.0 or better. This CI (or higher) must be maintained while receiving the award, the duration of which may not exceed one academic year with the possibility of renewal (unless otherwise specified).

Preference will be given to eligible applicants who are direct descendants of a United States Military Retiree, or a United States Military veteran who died as the result of a service connected injury. If there are no such candidates, applicants who are descendants of a Greek Military Retiree will be considered. If there are no eligible applicants, then candidates who meet all other requirements will be considered.

Papers that must be submitted along with the application form

  • Proof of Greek citizenship for at least three years prior to application.
  • If the applicant is directly descended from a United States Military Retiree, or a United States Military veteran who died as the result of a service connected injury, he/she must provide the following documentation.
    • Evidence of direct lineage from the named military sponsor.

Among equally qualified candidates, those demonstrating the greatest financial need will be selected.
