NESA Scholarship

One or more scholarships awarded annually, award amount based on spending policy set by the Board of Trustees

Open to both entering and continuing degree-seeking students; priority will be given to entering students

Intent of the Award

This scholarship was established in 2001 with a gift from the trustees of the Near East South Asia Council of Overseas Schools.  It recognizes the longstanding relationship between the NESA and The American College of Greece, and, in particular, honors the close friendship between past president of ACG, John S. Bailey, and the late Stanley Haas, past president of NESA and his wife, Mary Anne.

Extent of the Award

The NESA Scholarship is given for one academic year to promising students originating from one of the countries served by the Near East South Asia Council of Overseas Schools. Renewal of the award to the same recipient(s) is possible provided the eligibility requirement are met.

Eligibility Requirements

In order to be considered, the applicant must:

For Entering Degree-seeking Students:

  • demonstrate academic promise
  • have completed his/her secondary education at a lyceum with a high school grade of 17 and above (or equivalent)
  • originate from a NESA country*  (Proof of birthplace is required.)

To continue receiving the award, the recipient must register for at least 3 courses (9 credits or more) per continuous semesters and achieve a Cumulative Index (CI) of 3.0 or better by the end of the first year of study. This CI (or higher) must be maintained while receiving the award, the duration of which may not exceed one academic year with the possibility of renewal (unless otherwise specified). In addition, the recipient must be in compliance with all College policies including the Student Conduct Code.

For Continuing Degree-seeking Students:

  • have earned at least 24 credits
  • have a minimum CI of 3.0
  • originate from a NESA country*  (Proof of birthplace is required.)
  • be in compliance with all College policies including the Student Conduct Code

To continue receiving the award, the recipient must register for at least 3 courses (9 credits or more) per continuous semesters and maintain a CI of 3.0 or better while receiving the award the duration of which may not exceed one academic year with the possibility of renewal (unless otherwise specified).

* NESA countries: Bangladesh, Cyprus, Egypt, Greece, India, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Nepal, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Syria, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, Yemen.
