Overview

Business English Skills involves 10 topic-based workshops (25 hours of training in total) that focus on the core skills required to communicate with confidence in English in a variety of professional business situations. Each workshop is task-based and skills-based, allowing learners to practice important skills for the workplace.

This is our best-selling Business English course, and we have trained more than 450 professionals over the last 3 years from a wide range of industries, including pharma; aviation; banking; engineering and construction; the media and entertainment; energy; insurance; and telecommunications among many others.

Who is this for

Business English Skills is for professionals who wish to strengthen their business communication skills and become more confident in conducting business effectively in English in a variety of contexts.

Prerequisites

  • English has official or special status in at least 75 countries;
  • English has become the common language of the business community;
  • English is the official corporate language of many multinational companies;
  • 3/4 of the world’s mail is written in English;
  • It is difficult to climb the career ladder without very strong business English language skills
  • English proficiency is essential for mobility, affluence and innovation

Why attend?

The course places a strong emphasis on the development of both oral and writing skills, as well as on the language required to complement those skills. The content is topic-based and actively involves the participants in relevant and engaging tasks, designed to provide practical and immediate application of the material studied.

After taking this course, Trainees have shared that they feel more empowered to use Business English in their professional contexts because they have developed skills, improved fluency and built confidence.

The course runs for 10 consecutive weeks and consists of a 2.5-hour workshop per week (25 contact hours in total).

Christina Karavia

Professor of English for Academic Purposes (EAPP)

Christina Karavia has been a member of the English for Academic Purposes Program since 2014. Having completed her MA in Contemporary Literary Studies in the UK, she returned to Greece and started working in a Foreign Language School. She has been teaching English and preparing students for English language exams since 2000. Since 2015, she has been working as an oral examiner for the Michigan State University English language exams.

Dimitra Dimopoulou

Dimitra Dimopoulou

Professor of English for Academic Purposes (EAPP)

Dimitra Dimopoulou has been a member of the English for Academic Purposes Program since 2013. Having completed her MA in 19th Century English Literature at the University of Sussex, she returned to Greece and started teaching English as a foreign language. Since 2013, she has been working as an oral examiner for the Michigan State University English language exams.

Candy Karra

Professor of Theatre Arts and Dance

Candy Karra is a performer and contemporary dance and improvisation teacher based in Athens. She currently teaches Contemporary Dance for the Deree Contemporary Dance Practice major.

She has worked with various choreographers and dance companies, and performed for major festivals in Greece and abroad, including: Kalamata International Dance Festival, Athens and Epidaurus Festival, Onassis Cultural Centre’s New Choreographers Festival, “Kypria” International Festival (Cyprus), Folkwang Physical Theatre Festival (Essen, Germany) and Battery Dance Festival (New York). She also participated in the first Ultima Vez Research Program for theater and dance (Brussels, Belgium).

Since 2010, she has been teaching contemporary dance and improvisation for different age and level groups in Athens, and since 2012 she has been conducting educational dance workshops in collaboration with the Onassis Cultural Centre.

Nikolaos Lampas

Nikolaos Lampas

Assistant Professor of International Relations, Political Science

Nikolaos Lampas is an Associate Professor of International Relations and European Studies at Deree – The American College of Greece, where he also serves as Program Coordinator of the BA in International Relations and European Affairs (IREA). He holds a BA in International and European Studies from the University of Piraeus, an MSc in Strategic Studies from the University of Aberdeen, and a PhD in International Relations and Strategic Studies from the University of Reading.

He teaches courses in Theories of International Relations, Foreign Policy, International Organizations, and Strategy and Geopolitics.

His research focuses on U.S. foreign policy, migration and refugee politics, and securitization, with particular emphasis on discourse, threat construction, and policy narratives. He is a member of the research team of the BRIDGE project (Building Regional Initiatives for Democratic Governance and Engagement), funded by the Bodossaki Foundation, which examines democratic participation, governance, and civic engagement in the Greek and European context.

Dr. Lampas is a Research Fellow in Security and Foreign Policy at ELIAMEP. He is a member of the European International Studies Association and the Hellenic Society of International Law and International Relations. He is also a Fellow of the Schusterman Center for Israeli Studies at Brandeis University. He has been awarded a postdoctoral fellowship from the State Scholarship Foundation (IKY) for his research project “Causes of Prejudicial Attitudes towards Refugees: Evidence from Greece.”

He is the author of the book U.S. and Rogue States: Iraq, Iran, and North Korea (in Greek) and has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals and edited volumes.
